travel videos & photos at: townsofeurope.com/ with text, maps & links.
Starting on Via Del Corso in the center of Rome, Italy. Be careful and use the traffic light signals. As you continue towards Trevi Fountain, two blocks further ahead to the most famous fountain in the world, built around 1750. Kind of based on earlier ideas from the Baroque period. And it's depicting the God of the ocean in the center and a triumphal arch around him. It represents the terminus fountain for an aqueduct aqueduct of the Virgin.
Continuing walking along in this central part of Rome, on over towards the Spanish steps and Piazza of the Spanish. Bursting with people all the time, attracted here by this special combination of wonderful urban elements. The setting is like another painting or postcard come to life with the curvaceous broad staircase, elevating your eyes to the Twin Tower Church of Trinity de Monte, and equally interesting sights in all other directions.
So you're looking at about 25 square blocks of shopping district -- you could say this is the shopping center of Rome. And not so much the historic center, but 18th century and 19th century buildings, and very much filled with beautiful shops, upscale as well as ordinary and nice restaurants as well, too. And then turning into some of these wonderful nearby shopping lanes, there's in particular the Via Della Croce.
The Altar of Peace is a major archeological site right near the Spanish steps. It has a striking exterior, a museum building that was designed by the American architect Richard Meier. It commemorates some important victories by the Emperor Augustus. This beautiful white marble structure consists of a series of lifesize reliefs sculptures all around the outside of it, celebrating peace and fertility, agriculture and the gods.
The Vatican Museum has become so popular that if you get there in mid-morning, it's too late. There'll be a long line and midday, mid-afternoon, it's pretty crowded. So the best bet is get there just before they open. This wonderful spiral staircase. Used to be the main entrance, but now nobody ever knows about it because it's tucked away on the side behind the post office. The Vatican Museum, most famous for the

We arrived in China in 1513 not 1542.
This trip sounds amazing but how many days would it take to see everything?
You didn’t mention how many of the most important type of shop: Coffeeshops! (Cannabis Cafes). Because let’s be honest, it’s the reason most people go there for!
A wonderful tour
❤❤❤F
Just visited.❤️
Aix-en-Provence is my favorite town in Europe. It is so elegant. Don’t miss the Pierre Bonnard exhibit at the Hôtel de Caumont. It’s fantastic.
Thanks for the informative video

i bet your wife was always with you filming this, because you "forgot" the red light district
9:58 the academy building was built in front of the Kapittelzaal, the place where the Union of Utrecht was signed. This is the actual place where the Netherlands as a state was born
1997
excellent guess!
This is informative, which group tour you used or it is private?
This was my own tour company, bringing groups from Hawaii to Europe on my favorite trip, Rome to London. I have retired from leading tours in order to travel on my own and focus more on shooting lots of new travel videos for you. You can find my outline of this tour on one of my websites, which could empower you to do it yourself, because no other company has ever done such a trip: www.toursbytrain.com/Rome-to-London-Tour.html
Maybe going tomBardollino in August. !

As some one born and bred in Ghent. Having lived in or near Ghent my entire life I congratulate you. That was very nicely done and unlike most you not just went over the same talking points that most do but also gave lots of info about the things of the beaten path. Must admit tho', you got very lucky with the weather because on sunny days it's a very lovely town to stroll lin but it being Belgium, there are lots of times that it's raining cats and dogs. =)
Thanks very much, means a lot to me, especially coming from a local -- you have a very beautiful city.
A cheaters parade.
lived in Ollanta 1 1/2 years above town. Really nice life until all the tourists came back. Now you can't breathe.
Amsterdam meravigliosa come lo è Amstenveel a pochi chilometri da Amsterdam ❤
Beautiful ❤
Great reminder of my visit to our last year and helping me to put good captions to my photographs that I took. Thank you for the lovely visit again.
Thanks for the ride on the castle walls. We never did that... We just come there in and out the outside walls. And a restaurant once in a while....
I really appreciated your tour. What you do is something that I wish everyone did and that was include maps pointing out where you are. I have been to Lugano but didnt spend much time there but returning in September and your video and complimentary audio was really great.
I am so grateful to read your comment, thanks very much. I make every effort to explain the place, show you how to get around, and describe what there is to see. Maps are important, and lately I have been enhancing it, along with the www.openstreetmap.org/ using Google My Maps, extremely handy for getting around. I have not yet added that to Lugano and various other previous videos, but have many such maps on my main website: townsofeurope.com/
Hi Dennis! ... at the end of this video you say "the ancient Roman Columns" ...what and where are is those?
Piazza di Pietri, Hadrian's Temple, 2 blocks from the Pantheon
So fun to go with you on my phone. Front row seat. Thanks for the tour.
if you can, wish you can show and explain the lockers in the train station and how to use them
They do have them, ask someone for assistance or read the instructions, not difficult and quite handy, but as long as you got to Amsterdam, why only stay for a day? This is a big, rich city.
@@denniscallan Bless thanks much
I would like to know we can take a train from Barcelona to carcassonne and carcassonne to Avignon which train station in Barcelona and which train name how often , from carcassonne to Avignon , which train and how often the trains run thanks
Yes you can, changing trains along the way, very easy. For details consult Rome2rio.com

Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
I went to the Caragh restaurant. It wasn't bad.
The brothers Van Eyck, painters born in Maaseik, my town.
Thank you a very nice summary. :) A few things were missing too bad you did not visit the garden of liege. just before you go up the stairs the Bueren, turn left just before the stairs, a staircase 1 metre wide will take you up among beautiful buildings and great view of the city.
From 1986 until 1989 I learned there for carving ( Liege style carvings). And now I myself am known all over the world.
Super video Thankyou
Historic? Try "medieval"! I lived there for 4 years. Heaven on earth. Thanks for the video
Absolutely best video. I felt as if i was in jordaan my self nd not ny room
Watching this video is fascinating. Its like the Miranda Priestly blue sweater scene from Devil Wears Prada. They're talking about truffle oil and molten chocolate cake like they're cutting edge things, becuase at the time they WERE cutting edge. Now you can get truffle oil fries from Applebee's and molten chocolate cake from Domino's. It's crazy how things evolve. Trotter's influence on fine dining can't be overstated.
Thank you for that lovely, up-to-date comment. Charlie was a pioneer!
So bam can set the deadlines and the government have given an open ended contract. This is just crazy you'd easily know this was taxpayer's money and not theirs.

I just visited Spello in April. Such a beautiful area. Thanks for sharing 🇮🇹
I thought the Madonna and child is at the church of our lady.
Not being funny but that's a large pub crowd
They are definitely a pub group, many heading to one right after, some got there before, all in good fun.
